01Design & dock
The L40 Ultra Gen 2's all-in-one dock empties the bin, hot-washes the spinning pads, dries them, and refills the tank. Dreame's best trick remains mechanical: for carpet-only runs the robot detaches its mop pads at the dock and vacuums bone-dry — the most foolproof carpet protection in the category, because there's simply nothing wet on board.
02Vacuuming & mopping performance
With 25,000 Pa of rated suction — the highest in our fleet — the L40 posted 96% on hard floor and 89% on mid-pile carpet, effectively tying the Roborock flagship in our lanes. Mopping cleared 7 of 12 dried stains in one pass, and the extendable hardware is the standout: the side brush and MopExtend pad both swing outward along baseboards and into corner pockets, leaving the thinnest dry margin of any round robot we've measured.
03Navigation & app
Structured light plus an AI camera handled our obstacle course well, with one caveat: thin cables in dim light fooled it twice in thirty runs, which the Roborock and Roomba never did. Mapping is fast and multi-floor capable. The Dreamehome app covers rooms, zones, water flow, and per-room sequencing — comprehensive, if lighter on cleaning history than Roborock's.
04Who should buy it
Buy the L40 Ultra Gen 2 if you want flagship-class everything and either have lots of carpet (the detachable mops are unbeatable insurance) or simply refuse to pay Roborock's premium. At its street price it's the strongest value in the premium combo tier.
